Euthanasia: we can live without it
The Australia & New Zealand Society of Palliative Medicine (ANZSPM) have adopted a formal position in opposition to euthanasia & assisted suicide.
Just in case you missed it, Sunday 25 May – Saturday 31 May 2014 is National Palliative Care Week in Australia.
"The conclusion that Belgium is a palliative care role model for the world is an overstatement."
"For us, medical aid in dying is euthanasia; it does not fit into our concept of palliative care; it is not a treatment,"
the authority to provide a hastened death will be conferred on physicians, many of whom lack competencies to care for dying patients
how do we create the type of compassionate community of which we are proud to be a part?
“We already have one of the best health systems in the world but it is under pressure, and it continues to fail some of the most vulnerable and disadvantaged Australians”
"I believe it will change the patient doctor relationship forever."
"...with good palliative care, no-one needs to die in unbearable pain, whether they die at home, hospice or hospital. I’m not sure that advocates of euthanasia really understand that."
